Want to the magic of 2019 streaming into the New Year? It won’t happen by accident…YOU need to make it happen.
Here are 6 Power Activities for Freelancers for 2020
Visit a networking group: Yes I know that sounds scary, but I spent many years going to networking groups in my area and they are always a good source for contacts and referrals. Not only does visiting these groups give you visibility as a freelancer, having to say to people “I am a freelance_________. I offer___ and___ for business professionals just like you is a great way to fine-tune your elevator pitch and get past the fear of talking about your biz.
Make 20 new connections on LinkedIn: Sound like a lot? It really isn’t and it acts the same way as face-to-face networking. You can also take this one step further and Reach out to 10-20 existing contacts you already have in your LinkedIn database and reconnect by alerting them to a new service you have or the fact you have hours available for the coming New Year. If you need help whipping your LinkedIn profile into shape, or even getting started on it, read this article on Creating A Powerful LinkedIn Profile.
Make a Plan Stan: Starting 2020 without any sort of plan is like international travel with no map! If you haven’t done so, take the time to sit down and allow yourself the headspace to form some goals. Just because it’s not the “new year” anymore doesn’t mean you have to lep goal-setting slide. This is also the time to recap the previous year by making a list of what worked for your business, and what didn’t.
Give Social Media A Try: If you have been rebelling at the idea of dipping your toe into the social media waters, it’s time to put your Big Girl Panties and Jump.IN. Social media is not the cure-all-to-end-all, but it is an amazing way to get your name out there and been seen. I highly recommend any freelancer, blogger or VA get started on LinkedIn ASAP. Have I gained clients from LinkedIn? YUP. Good ones too. Not sure how to begin on LinkedIn? Check out this tutorial here.
Walk Your Talk: Ok, so….just because it’s April doesn’t mean you can let the resolutions you made in January wane. Resolutions don’t work, Decisions DO! Do more than “talk” about your plans, you need to act. Pick one thing a day, one act of progress towards your goals and a Do.IT.
Need Some Help with Goal-Setting? Try the S.M.A.R.T recipe:
Specific: Be very detailed and clear about your goal “I want to write for magazines” too vague. Try “I want to write for monthly, Regional Parenting magazines like________and great cover stories and main features.”
Measurable: There must be a way to measure a goal. Don’t afraid to put pen to paper and outline the timeline to achieve this goal, but also remember to allow time. Rome wasn’t built in a day and it may take a few months for your goal to percolate and evolve.
Aligned: The goal is in alignment with your values, life purpose, and vision for you. Why is this goal important to you? How will you feel when you achieve this goal?
Reach: It must be a challenge for you, but not so much that you can’t imagine reaching it.
Time frame: It must have an end date to be accomplished, not open-ended.
