Author Stacy McAnulty came across my radar a few years ago when she became a Sponsor of the non-profit I project manage, Multicultural Children’s Book Day.
Stacy is a VERY busy author and across the board, her books are high-quality, vibrant, and FUN.
I also think it’s cool that she is a mechanical engineer turned children’s book author. I love empowered and bold women! Her award-winning books include Excellent Ed, illustrated by Julia Sarcone-Roach (a 2017 Ezra Jack Keats Book New Writer Honor Recipient), Earth! My First 4.54 Billion Years, illustrated by David Litchfield; Brave and Beautiful, both illustrated by Joanne Lew-Vriethoff; Mr. Fuzzbuster Knows He’s the Favorite, illustrated by Edward Hemingway; and 101 Reasons Why I’m Not Taking a Bath, illustrated by Joy Ang.
She’s also authored the chapter book series Goldie Blox, based on the award-winning toys, and The Dino Files. Her debut middle-grade novel, The Miscalculations of Lightning Girl, will publish in 2018. When not writing, Stacy likes to listen to NPR, bake triple-chocolate cupcakes, and eat triple-chocolate cupcakes.
She’s my kind of lady 🙂
Though I adore all of her books (I haven’t read Earth! My First 4.54 Billion Years yet…but I want too!) two of her hardcover diverse picture books are stand-out favs of mine: Brave and Beautiful.
Both of these books should be required reading for ALL kids.
Beautiful and Brave by Stacy McAnulty
Beautiful by Stacy McAnulty: Every girl is unique, talented, and lovable. . . .Every girl is BEAUTIFUL.
Much more than how one looks on the outside, true beauty is found in conquering challenges, showing kindness, and spreading contagious laughter. Beautiful girls are empowered and smart and strong! BEAUTIFUL breaks barriers by showing girls free to be themselves: splashing in mud, conducting science experiments, and reading books under a flashlight with friends. This book will encourage all girls to embrace who they are and realize their endless potential. (click the book title to view details on Amazon)
Brave by Stacy McAnulty:
Like superheroes, brave kids can save the world, just by being brave. An empowering picture book for all kids that demonstrates to children that they can be real-life superheroes and that all kids have what it takes to be brave. Kids are brave every day. When they are told they are too little but accomplish something big. When they check for monsters under the bed, just in case. When they face something uncertain, whether a thunderstorm or a hospital visit. When they stand up for what’s right, even when it means facing consequences. As a parent, I know that there is a lot of noise and quite a bit of not-so-positive distractions and influences for our kids these days. Between school, friends, and social media our kids are a few words, or a few clicks, from things that can make them feel “not enough.” Books like Beautiful and Brave are such a simple way for them to understand that they ARE enough and kindness will make the world go-round.
I know for a fact that parents would love and appreciate both of these books (and young readers will too!) so that’s why I am giving a copy of each one of these hardcover picture books to one lucky winner!
