Non-fiction/Memoir Ghostwriter
Everyone has at least one story inside of them. Maybe it’s a memoir filled with knowledge from a lifelong journey through tough times. Perhaps it is a how-to book that reflects something you are passionate about, like homeschooling, rescuing animals, and helping small business owners run their shops better. Maybe you are a survivor and have many lessons to teach and share. The common thread of all these scenarios is that no matter what stage of life you are in, it’s never too late (or early) to share your story as a published book.
“Every writing project originates with an idea, and the concept starts with the storyteller.”
But what do you do if you have a story to tell but don’t have the time, patience, writing chops, or organizational skills to bring your book to life? Or maybe you struggle to articulate your story because of trauma, shyness, or being unsure of the writing process.
That’s where a ghostwriter can save the day. A ghostwriter is merely your “pen,” and you are the author. They are the person who organizes your book into something that looks and reads like a …well…A BOOK!
First, what IS a ghostwriter?
I define ghostwriting as helping someone pull their story from their brain, get those thoughts onto paper, and organize it into a readable story. Ghostwriting is more like cheerleading, coaching, and shepherding someone through authorship. It’s helping them embrace their emerging author self and tell a story that could improve the world. I’m doing most of the bookwriting work, but it’s still 100% the client’s story.
Many people know they have a fantastic story to tell or possess experiences and knowledge that would make the world a better place. These same folks also struggle to document their stories in a way that is “readable.”
That’s where I come in. After interviewing people from all walks of life for over a decade, I have a firm grasp on the elements of a compelling and enjoyable story. I work with my ghostwriting clients to help them organize their thoughts, tell their stories, and achieve their dream of bringing their books to life.
A ghostwriter writes copy like articles, speeches, books, blog posts, email newsletters, web copy, etc., but doesn’t take credit for the work. My name will not appear on the project anywhere (unless you choose to share it).
WiiFM? (What’s In It for Me)
You may be wondering, Becky, what’s in it for you if you are NOT credited for the articles, books, etc. you write? I’ve been a full-time freelance writer, blogger, and author for over ten years, and I have a lot of credits. I am not at the stage in my writing career where I need “published clips” to prove my writing credibility. I am looking for projects I can get excited about, which will help me continue doing what I love most: helping others tell their stories.
To date, I have helped five authors extract their stories from their brains and create books that tell their stories to offer to the public. I assure you that ghostwriting is the most fulfilling and rewarding work I have ever done. Ghostwriting projects are indeed a labor of love for me, and I have found my niche in helping emerging authors in the memoir and non-fiction book genres.
How Long Does It Take?
Progressing a manuscript to the point where it is ready for final editing can take anywhere from five months to a year. It all depends on the needs, progress, availability of necessary information, and the author’s schedule.
How Much Does It Cost
That is the thousand(s) dollar question, isn’t it?! Because these projects are vast and lengthy, creating the manuscript that will ultimately be your book takes time, effort, brainpower, and much writing skill. Ghostwriters charge higher rates than regular writers because the time involved in interviewing, researching, creating, critiquing, and editing someone else’s story is significant. Testimonials
Becky’s book-shepherding skills are the quiet force that helped pull the book out of me and get it onto the page. I am so thrilled and excited to share that with Becky’s help, I have finished a book sitting in my head for 2 years in 4 months. Becky’s help in creating a book writing focus, as she organized my thoughts, kept me on a weekly writing schedule, and received all of my voice memos, notes, and teaching videos to pull out the nuggets of gold and get them onto the page. If you have something to say, something to share, or have always been saying that you want to write a book, Becky is the woman to help you get it done. She is simply magical in her talents.~Valarie Budayr–author of Thrive: Living a Self-Healed Life.
I had such traumatic and tragic experiences in life that I began to document the occurrences. I then started collecting all the data that would substantiate my story. I soon had enough pages to publish a book. I wanted my story told, and I was STUCK. I am not a writer, and I don’t even read books. I was introduced to Becky as a ghostwriter and writing coach. After reading a short article that she wrote, I immediately knew that SHE WAS THE ONE. I could not have found a better person to write my story. Becky is very talented and an expert in her writing. When friends read my book, they often comment that it is well written and tracts well. I answer, “Why thank you,” and graciously accept the compliment for Becky’s work. ~Jeanie Hall, Author of Murdered By Mistake.
My daily devotion today from the Lifeway Winter 23 edition could sum up the testimonial. “A friend loves at all times, and a brother is born for a difficult time.” Proverbs 17:17
I know God worked through Becky and myself to get the message He wanted told out. Writing a book alone was beyond my capability. He placed her in my life at the perfect time for His truth to be told. I am so grateful I made a new friend whom I trusted, who kept me on track, and who was accountable for my goal of the competition. A friend willing to face any spiritual battle with me through the book’s development for our growth in His will. Forever grateful. ~Melissa McDaniel, Author of Loved Just As I Am.
Working with Becky was very rewarding. I had no idea what I was doing; I just knew I wanted to tell my story. Becky was able to help me put it all into words. With our weekly conversations and watching my book come together page by page, I knew I had chosen the right person. My book “The Hand I’ve Been Dealt, A Life Lived With Epilepsy” would not have been completed without her assistance. ~ Barbara J. Mack, author of The Hand I’ve Been Dealt, A Life Lived With Epilepsy.
