From paralegal to tiny house luminary, BA has had many of her tiny dreams a BIG reality.
I’ve known Beth Ann {B.A.} Norrgard since high school. Even back in the 1980s, she had spunk and spirit that was hard to ignore.
As life oftentimes does, we lost track of each other for a while as we built careers and formed families. We reconnected about five years ago while I was launching a freelance writing career and B.A. was diving full-tilt into a new career of being a “tiny house luminary.” It was like old times and once again, we clicked.
As someone who felt buried under “stuff” at home, I was fascinated by B.A.’s tiny house/minimalist lifestyle. I was lucky enough to be tapped to write several magazine articles about her journey from paralegal to tiny house luminary and we stayed in touch even as she traveled the U.S facilitating Tiny House Jamborees, teaching classes, meeting with city officials to encourage them to consider tiny house communities, and organizing tiny house builds.
As she and I prepare for possibly our biggest adventure together yet, children’s book authors, I happened across this awesome TedX talk that is such a shining example of B.A. mission and mindset. Her talk is straight from the heart. Lovely and inspiring at the same time.
After living a traditional mainstream life, I chose to make a tiny change. I believe it’s time to shift the paradigm. Tiny houses are more than hip and trendy; they challenge us to reflect on the types of houses we are building and to review how we are using our resources, globally and personally. I will challenge you to question the structure of our neighborhoods and the places we call home. I will ask you to try something that you are afraid of and to change your experience.
We can do more than we think we can, and with less. Small spaces inspire people to find their true happiness.
This talk was given at a TEDx event using the TED conference format but independently organized by a local community.

Looking for a beautiful and unconventional diverse picture book for kids? Check out the upcoming, Sissy Goes Tiny!
In Sissy Goes Tiny, eight-year-old Sissy and her parents make the bold choice to downsize their life and embark on a journey of living tiny and doing more with less. At first, Sissy struggles to get used to the idea of living in a tiny house on wheels and traveling around the U.S, but as she and her mommy and daddy learn about downsizing, repurposing, and how “stuff is just stuff,” she soon understands that a life of “living tiny” will be filled with the big adventures and learning.
This gorgeous diverse picture book will be available July of 2019 and you can read the full story of this journey here and also reserve your hardcover copy here.
“I believe that Sissy Goes Tiny is going to open so many minds for people! A tiny house is absolutely not for everyone, but we all like to dream and step into the shoes of another lifestyle in our minds. Learning about this lifestyle I think will help people be more supportive of people who do choose to live unconventionally. Sissy and her family are a great example of that.” Co-author, B.A. Norrgard
