My writing journey is not a conventional one. I was not a writer, nor had I ever had intentions of becoming an author.
But that all changed when I woke one morning at 3:00 a.m. with a strong spiritual inspiration that I could not ignore. At that moment, I felt the need to create a superhero cartoon character that defended kids who were bullied and unable to defend themselves. This led to the inspiration for my first children’s book, Lilbeebye Stings Bully.
I thought it was important to address the ongoing bullying problem in today’s society happening all over the world. When bringing Lilbeebye to life, I wanted to develop a character that kids could relate to and learn from especially… if they have problems with bullying.
Lilbeebye is a regular little girl who has a secret power to sting Honey Love into the hearts of those who bullied and picked on the children who were too afraid to defend themselves. My hope is that Lilbeebye will inspire those who have been a victim of bullying and that young readers will learn how to treat everyone with love and respect.
Now with the global pandemic, parents and children have been struggling with the current events and experiencing a new reality for everyday life. On top of that, the United States has been undergoing a major racial divide. Lilbeebye is an underrepresented character in children’s pop culture as a Black female superhero.
Celebrating diversity and treating others with love and kindness is such a significant message we should be instilling in our youth for generations to come. With schools being virtual and/or in-person currently, the anti-bullying message is as prominent as ever. Ultimately, Lilbeebye teaches readers that if they care for one another they can help make the world a better place, how to treat people how they want to be treated and to always be kind and love one another.
I hope that Lilbeebye can be an inspiration to all and someone readers can look up to for guidance during these difficult times.
