First I want to say THANK YOU for a wonderful SITS Day and all the Comment Luv from my bloggy buddies. Gosh, what a gift that was. It was exactly what me and my blog needed!
THEN I want to do a shout out, giveaway and review to my hometown girl and author Teri Kaminski-Peterson. As you may know, I don’t do giveaways and reviews very often. But there are times when I just can’t help myself. If I find something awesome that blows my mind, I immediately want to tell the world. That’s just the way I roll. 🙂
That’s how I feel about Teri. The first time I met Teri I thought DANG..she has more energy in her little finger than I have in my whole body! Then I found out she was a Pediatric Speech Therapist and I though “double DANG!”
Then I saw her book and, not to sound like a complete cheeseball, but my heart sang.
Seriously.
Bright, cheerful, and BIG, this book just cries “read it to me Mom”! But this delightfully illustrated and written book is designed for more than “read to me Mom”, it is meant to be interactive adventure. A book to help parents with the challenges of keeping their child seated and attentive during story time.
The Big Book of Exclamations is an educational children’s book designed to promote speech sound development, and imitation of gestures, sounds, and words. Unlike most books, it doesn’t have a story to read. Instead, along the bottom of each page, there are prompts which teach parents/caregivers how to act out the illustrations and interact with children using gestures, sounds, and words. This twenty-four page book is also filled with information intended to help parents understand speech and language development, and also provides resources for those seeking advice.

I have never heard of a book like this one that prompts parents on how to act out the gestures within its pages. What an awesome concept. I have a busy 14 month old, he does not sit for long when I am reading books. I am definately interested in something like this.
this book gives you prompts on how to communicate to your child!!I think my twins would love this book and are at the perfect age for this kind of awesome reading/Fun!!!

Thanks for sharing this book!
It seems I have 4 children who are just the right age for this book – one who is in speech therapy who this would be absolutely perfect for.
I love the notes on how to be an interactive reader….and the knock knock and waving to the people on the page. I really need to draw Seraph out to get her to talk. and there are simple words on the page that my 4 yr old can sound out.
I love it! Stopped by from SITS and I’m so glad I did. I hope I win a book 🙂

This books looks so sweet. As a grandmother, my goals with my grandchildren are similar to this book-to help children learn. I really like to try to find educational toys and books for me to keep at home for the grandkids when they visit.
Oooh, I want this book. Teri, would like to teach parents of alternative ways to use books. I’m intrigued!

I was so excited when I saw this book! This is how I try to read to my 15-month-old, using gestures, sounds, etc., at parts of the story. And now she acts them out with me while I read to her. The book looks fabulous! So great that she’s a local author, too.
What an awesome book. My three year old has a notoriously short attention span and we rarely get to finish a book. So I love the idea that this book is full of sounds instead of a story.
Great post! Thanks for sharing and Happy Valentine’s Day. Lia
