Soooo….I am having a little mental difficulty with the fact that I will be turning the big “5-0” in a month or so (I ain’t tellin’ when!).
I am not 100% sure where this sadness stems from, but I will figure it out. In the meantime, I decided I would do something nice for myself to celebrate this milestone and try to put a positive spin on it in my head.
So I came up with a project I call “50 Nice Things for ME before I Turn 50.” #50Thingsx50. The idea is to do one nice thing for me every day. I am already a couple of weeks into this self-imposed project and decided to start taking pictures of my “nice things” and sharing them on Facebook.
The reason is two-fold:
- I need all the support I can get (I rarely ask for help or kudos…RARELY)
- To give others the idea and vision on doing nice things for themselves everyday.
The response and encouragement on my first Facebook update nearly brought me to tears.
I am receiving so much sage advice and warm-fuzzy thoughts from my friends and family (I love my friends and family!) and, by golly, I do believe it’s helping.
Precious advice from my Momma:
The big “50 ‘ coming up –Becky?– it’s just a number—now that you are older and smarter you will enjoy the second half of your life even more—being a mom is a very important job but being a grandma is more fun—you have that still ahead- a lot to live for- these are busy years for you-so have a good day- love you much- mom
This I know; whether you are turning 30, 40, 50 or 60…celebrate it. Embrace it. Don’t let it define “how you should be.” I am going to try very hard to do just that. I will also continue to share my 50 Nice Things for Me by 50 here and on Facebook so stay tuned for some fun.
So what was my “nice thing” for today…..I bought myself some BOOTS! This may seem like a “so what?” to some of you, but for me it’s HUGE. I adore boots. I love how they look and I love how stylish they are. I have had “boot-envy” for many years. The clinker is that, thanks to my thick calves, it’s been hard for me to find boots that fit.
But I found some….and they are gorgeous 🙂
Anyone have any “nice things for me” ideas? Bring ’em on!
Christmas is sneaking up on us! (don’t swat at me) It’s true. We have have 364 days to get ready for Christmas (and now it’s less than 90 days) so NOW is the time to get crackin’ with holiday gift buying!
Usually, for me anyway, “Christmas shopping” means jostling around and waiting in line ….BUT this year it will be different for me (and it can be for you too).
